No joke.
Christianity Today’s cover story for May 2012 addresses Heidi Baker’s ministry in Mozambique, including her ability to heal the deaf, multiply food and raise the dead – just like Jesus did.
According to the article, Baker is a native to Laguna Beach, California, teenage convert to Pentecostalism and graduate of Vanguard University. After marrying Rolland Baker, the two became overseas missionaries with a heart for the poor and, after spending time in Indonesia, now run a church movement with more than 10,000 establishments across Africa.
A regular speaker on the charismatic speaker circuit, Baker longs for hours alone in prayer and meditation, and “has a gift for making friends” – she’s a regular woman, yet, the “miracles” she accomplishes are supernatural.
But, then again, why should we be surprised? Jesus said, in faith, we would do greater things than He did while He was here. Baker’s faith just may be the faith that He was talking about, and makes me wonder why I worry about term papers and deadlines as much as I do.
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.” -John 14:12-
